Black History Month events

ICYMI: October is Black History Month in the UK. If you're keen to get involved in celebrations, plenty of events are going on across the country. Whether you opt to attend an IRL event or online, a quick google search will reveal the celebrations taking place in your local area and beyond.

1st – 31st October – Black History Month 2021 at HOME – MANCHESTER 

This new and exciting season will bring people together to uplift, inspire, and entertain by celebrating Black artistic brilliance and talent across film, theatre, art, music, and comedy.  


4th-29th October – Zari Gallery's Honour, Remember, Inspire exhibition - LONDON

Zari Gallery is proud to present an exhibition featuring British and International Black Artists in celebration of Black History Month. The Zari team has carefully curated several artists, each with their own story. 

 

11th October – The South West marks Black History Month – ONLINE

A free online conference is open to everyone, with amazing guest speakers including David Olusoga OBE and June Sarpong OBE discussing this year's theme for Black History Month: "Proud to be".

 

13th October – Black History Month: Exploring Britain's Black LGBTQIA+ history – ONLINE 

This Black History Month, The Guardian will be hosting a panel of speakers to explore personal histories and recollections of the Black queer experience of Britain. 

 

20th October - Bristol Black History Month Celebration - BRISTOL

Join the team behind the Bristol Black History Magazine for a fundraising evening of music from local Black DJs, guest speakers, a curated art exhibition and traditional Caribbean food provided by Jamaican takeaway Café Conscious!

 

Until 24th October – James Barnor: Accra/London – A Retrospective - LONDON

Celebrate six decades of works from British-Ghanaian photographer James Barnor in a major retrospective exhibition at the Serpentine North Gallery.
